Greater Hands International for Health and Development
Greater Hands International for Health and Development is a non-governmental, non-political, non-profit, faith-based, charitable and independent organization, based in Nigeria, committed to building lives and giving hope through Sustainable Development, Health and Economic Empowerment Initiatives.
Our Focus Areas
We at Greater Hands International for Health and Development are committed to building lives and giving hope through health and in full regard to the three dimensions of Sustainable Development: Economic, Social & Environmental.
Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights
Quality healthcare for women and girls is vital if we are going to achieve the related Sustainable Development goals (SDGs). Most maternal deaths are preventable yet in Nigeria women still die from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. GHF is particularly concerned with women and adolescent health, maternal & newborn health. The strategic areas addressed include; Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights, Healthy timing & spacing of Pregnancy, Family Planning, Maternal & Newborn Health intervention and Advocacy.
HIV / AIDS
GHF conducts sensitization programs to prevent HIV infection through enhanced partnerships, engages directly with the communities, restores hope through HIV counseling and empowers the infected/affected person(s) to make informed decisions. We also carry out community HIV tests and make referrals.
Human Rights & Good Governance
At GHF, we are fully aware that Progress and development are not underpinned by economic advancement alone, but also by good governance. We offer educational materials, workshops, trainings on human Rights/good governance, monitor and document/expose human rights violations in the community to the relevant organs. We often publish the information to impact public opinions and also provoke the community to demand for accountability from the leadership.
We believe sanitation needs to be addressed as a whole, including improvement of facilities, environmental conditions and behavioral change that’s why we focus on the importance of proper disposal of waste, the construction and proper use of toilets, hand washing, avoiding drinking from open water sources, taking showers, cutting nails and hair, the use of safe and clean sanitary pads during monthly bleeding, and maintaining cleanliness inside and outside the house.
Conflict Management & Gender Equality
Gender inequality feeds into conflict, therefore, GHF critically analyses the specific socio-economic and political (gender issues) responsible for the continuous perpetuation of gender inequality in Nigeria. We respond to the challenges of gender inequalities by integrating the gender component into all our development programs and by actively engaging in conflict management activities. As a local NGO, we have unique insights into the different cultures, and a budding relationship with the local partners and therefore in a better position to give guidance to the policymakers.
Research & Monitoring
At GHF, we are aware that donors want to make sure that their funds/efforts produce the desired outcomes. We therefore, integrate research, monitoring and evaluation into all our development programs. Using a range of research methods tailored to the context, we strive to answer the questions; what works, what doesn’t, and what can be done to strengthen current policies and practices. Our desire is to contribute greatly to the advancement of communities where we work, help to avoid duplication of services, provide improved coordination and equal access to quality services.
We believe that every live counts. Support us in building lives and giving hope through health and in full regard to the three dimensions of Sustainable Development: Economic, Social & Environmental.
